New Picture-in-Picture (PiP) experience
Migration guide
Overview
To make our video player more adaptive and aligned with your needs, we’re upgrading the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) format with new features and a cleaner design.
This update aims to improve viewer experience and boost monetization, especially on mobile and vertical formats.
The new version will roll out this summer (planned early August): No action is required for the release unless you’re using custom CSS for PiP repositioning. Let us know if you’d like more details.
What’s changing?

- Better experience for vertical content:
The new PiP automatically adapts to vertical videos for a smoother, more natural user experience. - Smaller footprint on mobile screens:
To avoid disrupting navigation, especially on smaller screens, the PiP format will now appear in a more compact version, improving usability and content visibility. - Simplified, distraction-free design:
We’ve removed secondary elements like title, share, and “watch on DM” to focus attention on the video itself. - Smarter integration for partners:
Custom CSS will be replaced by a “set default corner” option, making it easier to place PiP where it works best for your layout. - Cleaned-up features for clarity:
Based on usage data, features like Quick seek and Hold to speed will be sunset to streamline the experience. As always, we’re open to feedback if these are important to your users.
Key dates
- Rollout of the new Picture in Picture starts early August 2025.
- The rollout of the new PiP will mark the deprecation of the old version.
